WHAT CHERYL BELIEVES
CHERYL IS COMMITTED TO GETTING BACK TO BASICS
PUTTING STUDENTS, FAMILIES, & EDUCATORS AT THE HEART OF EVERY DECISION.
THE WOMAN BEHIND THE MISSION
Cheryl Alexis is a senior-level people management professional whose career has been rooted in developing people, strengthening institutions, and expanding opportunity — values she is now ready to bring to the school board.
She currently serves as an Employment Specialist at Easterseals PORT Health, which provides disability, mental health, and substance use services to help her neighbors in recovery. Earlier in her career, she spent several years as a Career Coach guiding jobseekers toward employment and training while helping employers find the talent they need.
Cheryl's passion for education runs deep. For 12 years, she served as Associate Director of Athletics for Human Resources for the Harvard University Department of Athletics,
where she supported the people behind one of the nation's premier collegiate athletic programs.
She has also taught collegiate Human Resources Management, an experience that gives her a firsthand understanding of how strong instruction and mentorship shape students' futures.
Before moving into human resources leadership, Cheryl began her professional career practicing labor and employment law. That legal background, paired with decades of workforce development and HR leadership, gives her a rare combination of skills well suited to school board governance: sound judgment on policy and personnel matters, a track record of building effective teams, and a deep commitment to preparing young people for successful careers and futures.

DECADES OF EXPERIENCE DEVELOPING PEOPLE, STRENGTHENING INSTITUTIONS, AND EXPANDING OPPORTUNITY
NOW CHERYL IS READY TO BRING THAT LEADERSHIP TO THE WAKE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
Cheryl earned her Bachelor's degree at Harvard University, graduating with Honors in History & Science (Biology) while competing on the Varsity basketball and tennis teams. She earned her law degree at the University of Chicago and was admitted to the bar in New York and Illinois.
Cheryl resides in Apex with her daughter Arielle, a recent graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, who now works in the field of criminal justice. Cheryl is an accomplished public speaker and author who has delivered countless talks and workshops helping people discover their passions, define career paths, explore entrepreneurship, and improve their lives.
Cheryl is running for school board because she believes every student deserves the same investment in their potential that she has spent her career giving to athletes, jobseekers, and students alike.
